Chen Situ is a Lecturer in Food Safety and Therapeutics of Queen’s University Belfast and Queen’s University is a member of the 24 Russell Group Universities in the UK. Trained as a medical doctor, Dr Situ obtained her PhD in Medicine at Queen’s University and has since specialized in development of immunodiagnostics for screening and rapid detection of chemical contaminants, therapeutic drug residues and hormones in foods and biological samples utilizing both conventional and emerging technological platforms such as biosensor, proteomics and nanotechnology. After actively participating and playing major roles in a series of EU Framework Programme projects (FP4 – FP6), Dr Situ recently coordinated an EU funded (> €1M) PF7 international collaborative research project (2009-2013) with partners from Belgium, France and UK. Over the years, Dr Situ has strengthened ties with industrial sectors of diagnostic and food through joint research and commercialization activities to transfer basic research into marketable technologies and end-products.

The other area of Situ’s research focuses on exploring natural products for their potential applications in human health, animal health and welfare, to address the ever-increasing concerns over food safety and security, public health in relation to the development and emergence of antibiotic resistance due to extensive use of antimicrobials in human and veterinary medicine, as well as in agricultural food production. Situ’s research has been supported by the governments of the EU, China, UK, as well as the industry. Strong international links have also been developed through collaborative research and education with leading universities and research institutes in the USA, EU and China.

Beate Kettlitz After finishing her studies of food chemistry at Humboldt University in Berlin, in 1975, Beate Kettlitz worked at the Hygiene Inspection Services in Potsdam and was there in charge of foodstuffs. These tasks mainly included operative services - such as control of food producing facilities, stores, kitchens, producing meals for hospitals, school's and other facilities, to check for good hygiene practices and to give advice. After the successful achievement of a special professional certificate in the field of hygiene practice in 1978, she continued her professional engagement in the Regional Hygiene Institute of Potsdam. She became responsible for the control and professional advice for dairy products, dietetic products, baby food and other foodstuffs as field and later department manager. After her arrival in Brussels in 1991 she worked as an adviser on technical regulatory aspects for the food industry. As of May 1999, Beate Kettlitz started her professional carrier as a food policy adviser at BEUC,which lasted until April 2005. In April 2005 Beate Kettlitz jointed FoodDrinkEurope (former CIAA) as a Director for Food Safety, Science and R&D.

Arpad Ambrus was born in Kolozsvár in 1944; He is married with two children. Graduated at the Technical University of Budapest as chemical engineer. He was the technical and scientific manager of the Hungarian Pesticide Analytical Laboratories for 25 years, managed the Food Safety Programme of the Centre for Plant Health and Soil Conservation Service in Hungary. Currently he is the chief scientific advisor and responsible for scientific risk assessment. He is the chair of Codex Committee on Method of Analysis and Sampling He is the lecturer at the University of Debrecen and University of Szeged, and supervises 6 PhD aspirants. During his carrier he worked in various countries as FAO expert, represented Hungary in the CCPR for 14 years and managed the pesticide programme of the FAO/IAEA Training and Reference Centre for Food and Pesticides for 7 years. He was the Honorary Scientist of the Agricultural Academy of Korea for 5 years. Maria Tsimidou is professor of Food Chemistry and Head of the Laboratory of Chemistry and Technology in the School of Chemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Her teaching is Food Chemistry, Analysis , Quality Control and Food Legislation. She has published many research papers, review articles and contributions to scientific books and encyclopaedias on the above mentioned topics. Currently she is associate editor in the European Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, and chairs the COST ACTION FA1101 “Saffronomics”

Her research interests are related to virgin olive oil chemistry, quality and authenticity, saffron chemistry, authenticity and quality, antioxidant activity of plant extracts and constituents, new sources of targeted bioactive compounds (squalene, carotenoids, phenols) and analytical procedures for the determination of them.

Sanjay Dave is the Advisor to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. He was the Chairperson of Codex Alimentarius Commission (a UN -FAO/WHO- body) From July 2011 to July 2014. He has a Master’s degree in Life Sciences and Post-Graduate Diploma in International Trade. He also has a degree in Law. He has professional experience of more than 38 years of which about 28 years in international agriculture trade. For three and a half years (Jan 1996 – June 1999), he looked after India’s agricultural trade interests in the European Union in the capacity of Adviser (Agriculture) in the Mission of India to the European Union at Brussels.

Carla Vartanian is certified in Clinical Bioethics from Harvard Medical School. . She graduated from the American University of Beirut with a B.S in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Masters in Nutrition Science and later completed her Clinical Nutrition Diploma with the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism in which she is actively involved by conducting nutrition support workshops for dietitians and physicians. Throughout her career, her areas of interest in nutrition focused on research and education as she has participated in many international scientific meetings, been teaching nutrition in two different universities in Beirut and publishing nutrition and health articles in the Middle East for many years. He has served as a “visiting scholar” in 1996 and 1998 at University of Wyoming, USA; as a “visiting scientist” in 2001 and 2002 at Ohio State University, USA and as a “visiting professor” in 2006, 2007 and 2008 at University of Bordeaux I, France. He is an expert in Food Defense training activities via NCFPD (USA). He has supervised 4 Ph.D and 11 M.Sc. thesis in Food Engineering Department. He has 67 international journal articles (SCI) and over 750 citations (ISI-Web of Sci; h-factor 17) as well as close to 55 academic presentations in 35 different international meetings. He has completed 15 national, 4 international projects including EU/JRC, CNRS-EGIDE and NATO ARW/ATC projects. Roberta Onori born in Rome 10 June 1953 She is a researcher at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety - GMOs and Mycotoxins Unit – of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health), that is a governmental institute and the technical body of the Ministry of Health. She had taken degree in Biology in 1977 from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome. She is responsible of the GMO laboratory section of the GMOs and mycotoxin Unit. Her research interests include the identification of emerging risks in the food and feed production chains, standardization and validation of analytical methods and sampling approaches for the detection of GMO, and the development of strategies to prevent criminal and terrorist attack against food supply chain. Gebreyes is professor of molecular epidemiology, Director of Global Health Programs at The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine and Chair of the Ohio State Ethiopia One Health Task Force. He is a native of Ethiopia and naturalized citizen of the United States. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Addis Ababa University and completed his PhD at North Carolina State University. Dr. Gebreyes is the principal investigator of the National institute of Health (NIH) Fogarty International Center, Global Infectious Diseases, research and training program on Molecular epidemiology of Foodborne pathogens for eastern Africa including Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. He is engaged in various global capacity building efforts including teaching annual course on molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases in Brazil and Ethiopia. He also directs the Infectious Diseases Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory (IDMEL). IDMEL has a major goal and activity investigating molecular mechanisms of multi-drug resistance in gram-negative organisms. He is a recipient of several awards including the Battelle Endowment for Technology and Human Affairs (BETHA); Pfizer Research Award; American Society of Microbiology (ASM) International professorship award among others.

George - John E. Nychas is Professor of Food Microbiology and Director of Lab. of Microbiology and Biotechnology of Foods, Agricultural University of Athens. He has published 170 papers in SCI and more than 30 Chapters as invited author (ca. 5100 citations and h=39). He was President of National Food Authority of Greece, co-chair in the Professional Development Group (PDG) of “Microbial Modeling and Risk Analysis" of IAFP while he served EFSA as member of the BIOHAZARD group and recently he was providing external expertise to the European Parliament as expert on Food Safety.

In the last 20 years he has coordinated and/or participated in more than 20 EU projects, in the area of food safety, food microbial ecology, microbial physiology of pathogenic and spoilage bacteria, natural antimicrobial systems, metabolomics, mathematical modeling and risk analysis.

Australian Centre for Asian Business director Professor Ying Zhu was born in Beijing and graduated from Peking University with a Bachelor of International Economics. He then worked as an economist at Shenzhen Special Economic Zone for four years. He did his PhD thesis on the ‘role of export processing zones in East Asian development’, focusing on South Korea, Taiwan, China and Thailand, at Melbourne University between 1988 and 1992. After completing his PhD he worked at Victoria University and Melbourne University for 17 years. He was Director of the Masters of Human Resource Management at Melbourne University before joining UniSA as Centre Director on 1 February 2011. He has been a visiting scholar at the International Labour Organization, the University Cambridge and the World Bank.

Prior to his arrival at University of Florida, Archer served as Deputy Director, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where he was charged with oversight of the research, regulatory and policy activities of all foods and cosmetic programs including food additives, food labeling, special nutritionals, seafood, and cosmetics and colors. From 1984 until his retirement in 1994, Archer served as Chairman of the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Committee on Food Hygiene, and since 1990, has been a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Food Safety since 1990. Other international activities include: U.S. Representative to the International Standards Organization, and U. S. Technical Negotiator with the European Community. He is the past U. S. Associate Editor for Food Control, and member of the Advisory Board of the Academic Press Nutrition and Food Science Publications. He is a professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and was elected Fellow of the IFT in 2006. He is currently a member of the IFT Global Policy and Regulations, and is the subject expert for that Committee on food Hygiene. Dr. Archer also chairs the Florida Food Safety and Food Security Advisory Council to the Commissioner of Agriculture of Florida.

Eulogio J. Llorent-Martínez (Jaén, Spain, 1981) received the Chemistry degree and the Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude) in the University of Jaén in 2003 and 2008, respectively. He has made research stays in the University of Oviedo (Spain), the Charles University (Czech Republic), and in the Madeira Chemistry Research Center (Portugal). Since 2014, he is working as a research scientist at the Department of Physical and Analytical Chemistry (University of Jaén, Spain).

Helga Naes has a Ph.D. in Cyanobacteria and water quality from the University of Oslo (1988). From 1988 to 1992, she had a research position at the Meat cooperation of Norway working on lactic acid bacteria, gene-technology and fermentation. From 1993 and up to now, she has had different positions at Matforsk, now called Nofima (Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research), as Senior Research Scientist and Research Director. She is now Head (Research Director) of the Food Safety and quality department at Nofima. In 2003-2004 she was offered a sabbatical leave to study leadership at Sloan Business School, MIT, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. In the same period these studies were combined by a position as Industrial Adviser at the Norwegian Trade Council. Her main interest is to help companies to produce safe food with optimal shelf-life and minimal waste. Controlling the microbiota and optimize packaging methods are important tools in that respect. She has led the project of establishing a new and unique production facility of biosafety level 3, The Pathogen pilot plant, where scientist can study life-threatening bacteria in a realistic production environment. This is in collaboration with the University of Life Sciences, Norway.

Lynn Frewer is Professor of Food and Society at Newcastle University, UK. Previously she was Professor of Food Safety and Consumer Behaviour at Wageningen University in the Netherlands and Head of Consumer Science at the Institute of Food research at Norwich in the UK. Research interests focus on understanding and measuring societal and individual responses to risks and benefits associated with food, health, sustainability and safety, methodological innovation regarding the application of systematic reviews in the social science, and agrifood governance and associated policy issues, including policy translation of scientific results and foresight. She has had extensive involvement in EU and nationally funded projects, primarily in the area of social science and the (agri) food sector. She has published over 165 refereed journal articles and edited 5 books). She has also been involved in national and European research funding and strategy committees.

Nikos Mavroudis is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Food Science and leads the laboratory of Food Engineering & Separation of Actives (FoESA) in the Dept. of Applied Sciences in Northumbria University at Newcastle. Previously Nikos was a Research Scientist and Project Leader for Unilever R&D for 9 years and has been responsible for developing the separation expertise within Unilever R&D Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. His research interests are focused on Food Security & Food Safety, particularly relevant is his interest on bacterial flow cytometry and surface decontamination. Nikos has published 10 research articles in peer review journals and 12 patents/patent filings and his work has attracted ca 325 citations excluding self-citations.

Dr Clare Narrod leads the Risk Analysis Program at the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at University of Maryland. She received her Ph.D. in Energy Management and Environmental Policy in 1997 and a Master's Degree in International Development and Appropriate Technology both from the University of Pennsylvania. From 1998-2000 she served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Risk Analysis Fellow at USDA. Prior to coming to JIFSAN, she worked at the International Food Policy Research Institute, the Office of Risk Assessment and Cost-Benefit Analysis at United States Department of Agriculture and at the Food and Agriculture Organization. She has consulted for the World Bank and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture. She has field experience in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Thailand, Mali, Mexico, Vietnam, and Zambia.

Bonnie Buntain served as Professor of Public Health in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from 2013 to 2015 in the Department of Ecosystem and Public Health, with a joint appointment in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Community Health Sciences, University of Calgary, Canada. She is one of the founding deans of that new veterinary school and served for 5 years as the Assistant Dean of Government and International Relations. Previously, she held many position over 17 years in the U.S. federal government, including Chief Public Health Veterinarian, Assistant Deputy Administer of Public Health and Sciences, and founding Director of Animal Production Food Safety in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service. In other USDA offices she was the Staff Director of Animal Care and the National Program Leader of Veterinary Extension Service. In the Food and Drug Administration she started her government career as a Clinical Reviewer of Antibiotics in Food Animals. For 10 year previously she was the sole owner and veterinarian of Oahu Equine Veterinary Clinic in Hawaii, where she lived for 30 years and received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Animal Sciences at the University of Hawaii. Dr. Buntain received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 at Colorado State University, Internship at Glasgow, Scotland, and Residency in Large Animal Medicine at the University of Missouri. She is a Diplomate Emeritus of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Equine Practice and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. In July, 2015, Professor Buntain was honoured as Fellow of Aberystwyth University.

Cristina L.M. Silva is Associate Prof. at Portuguese Catholic University – College of Biotechnology (ESB). She is Chem. Eng. and PhD in Biotechnology and Food Engineering, and is involved in research on quality and safety of processed foods, with special emphasis on mathematical modelling and optimization of the processes. She is also working on sterilization of medical devices. She published 90 papers in refereed international journals – which have received to date 859 cites since 1996 listed by the ISI® web of knowledge and has an Elsevier SCOPUS® h-index of 19.

Kirsten Brandt is Senior Lecturer of Food Science and Nutrition in the Food Quality and Health Research Group of the Human Nutrition Research Centre at Newcastle University. The research group has an established track record in human intervention trials and risk-benefit assessments with foods and food supplements, benefitting from excellent access to highly motivated volunteers, healthy or belonging to relevant at-risk groups, and to recently established purpose-built facilities. It carries out investigational studies for public bodies such as the Department of Health as well as trials of a wide range of different health-related effects of foods and food supplements for large and small companies. Dr Brandt’s research focuses on food quality and impact on human health, including assessing health-promoting properties of plant constituents previously considered harmful for human health, including secondary metabolites and nitrate, as well as understanding of the effect of production factors on plant product composition. She teaches on the BSc honours degree programme ‘Food and Human Nutrition’ and the MSc degree programme ‘Medicinal Plants and Functional Foods’.

Ara Kanekanian gained his Ph.D. from Reading University – UK in 1983. He has been in academia for over 20 years with main interest in protein chemistry and fermentation technology. He has also been working for 10 years in the food industry and undertook several consultancy and turnkey projects related to food and dairy processing within Europe and the Middle East. He is a member of the publication committee of the International Journal of Dairy Technology and has published several scientific and technical papers. Other research activities include milk allergy, immune modulation and growth factors in colostrum, micro- and nano-encapsulation of nutraceuticals. Currently, he has been participating in several European projects regarding bioactive compounds in food for their health benefits as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-hypercholesterolemic, antihypertensive and anti-carcinogenic agents. He is also editing a book titled “Milk and Dairy Products as Functional Foods” commissioned by the Society of Dairy Technology – UK to be published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2013.

Mitchel Abaracoso Andrada was born August 17, 1985 in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines. A former elected youth leader and a non-governmental volunteer. She started her career as QA Laboratory Analyst in manufacturing processing plant working full-time while doing her Post-Graduate study as Master’s in Biology at the University of the Philippines. She also worked as University Researcher in the Division of Biological Sciences and conducted research studies under the National Biotechnology and Molecular Biology funded by the Department of Science and Technology. After her postgraduate degree she rendered service at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources as microbiologist and transferred to a private manufacturing and exporter company as a Quality and Certification Supervisor. She then worked as an Analyst and Statistician in the Philippine Fisheries and Development Authority doing post-harvest facility study through infrastructure projects while working as a safety-officer and in a construction company. She is also a Food Safety and HACCP consultant for some processing plants in the Philippines and writes food safety manuals. Currently, she is working as a Quality and Certification Manager in an aquaculture company based in Malaysia. Dr. Shane C. Burgess first in his family to complete college, he graduated with distinction as a veterinarian in 1989 from Massey University, New Zealand. He has worked in and managed veterinary clinical practices in Australia and the UK, including horses, farm animals, pets, wild and zoo animals, and emergency medicine and surgery. He did a radiology residency at Murdoch University in Perth in Western Australia, where he concurrently co-founded Perth’s first emergency veterinary clinic. He has managed aquaculture facilities in Scotland. Between 1995 and 1998, while working full time outside of the academy, he did his Ph.D. in virology, immunology and cancer biology (Bristol University Medical School, UK). He is also engaged in studying the effects of irrigation management, nitrogen fertilization rates, and cultural practices in nitrate-nitrogen movement in soil that affects water quality, soil organic matter level, and nitrogen mineralization in irrigated land. He is also involved in the development of methodology for determination of soil aggregation for dryland and irrigated areas and extraction method for determining ammonium and nitrate-nitrogen concentrations in the soils of various textures amended with or without plant residue.

Upendra M Sainju eight years working on the long-term effects of tillage, cover crops, and nitrogen fertilization on crop production, carbon sequestration in plant and soil, soil nitrogen fertility, microbial activities, and nitrogen leaching at Fort Valley State University, he developed a management practice consisting of conservation tillage, cover cropping, and nitrogen rate that sustains crop production, improves soil and water qualities, and reduces the rate of nitrogen fertilization as compared with the conventional practice.

Victor Afari-Sefa, a citizen of Ghana, is an Agricultural Economist and the Global Theme Leader - Consumption at AVRDC - The World Vegetable Center. He is based at AVRDC’s Regional Office for East and Southern Africa in Arusha, Tanzania. He has extensive experience in performance monitoring and impact assessment of horticultural value chains on smallholder livelihoods. In this present position, Victor leads and coordinates vegetable socioeconomic research in sub-Saharan Africa and globally by assessing opportunities and challenges in production systems, analyzing constraints in the value chain, and analyzing policy in interdisciplinary context. He has multi-country project management experience and coordinates multidisciplinary research in horticultural value chains, in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia where he emphasizes on proactive planning processes to attain set deliverables. He also has international experience in integrated economic-biophysical optimization modeling of agricultural water use. Prior to joining AVRDC in 2010, Victor worked as a Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Specialist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and Research Scientist at Center for Development Research (ZEF) in Bonn, Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the Justus-Liebig University Giessen, Giessen, Germany as has 25 peer reviewed publications to his credit.

Francis Lewu obtained BSc Agriculture in Plant Breeding and Seed Technology and MSc Agronomy in Nigeria. He started his career as a Genebank Research Assistant in International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA, Nigeria and later proceeded to study PhD Botany with specialization in plant genetic conservation and propagation. After his postdoctoral study, he joined the Department of Agriculture, University of Zululand, South Africa as a Lecturer in 2008 and was appointed HOD, of the department in January 2009; a position he held till end of May 2011. Francis Lewu joined the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as HOD of Agriculture Department in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2014 and became a C Rated National Research Foundation Scholar of South Africa during the same year. He is a qualified Professional Natural Scientist and has supervised and mentored master and doctoral students to completion. Prof Lewu currently concentrates his research effort on the autecology and propagation of screened medicinals and alternative cultivation protocols for field crops and horticultural species. He is editorial member of many journals and serves as reviewer to the NRF, several local and international journals and reviews many masters and doctoral thesis for several universities.

She was the Former Head of the Postharvest Engineering Unit, IITA in Nigeria & a Researcher with the Agricultural Engineering Department of IRRI in Philippines. From 2009, Engr. Leony is the Thematic Director of the Postharvest and Agro processing (PHAP) Extension of the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) and is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Halos-Kim leads a team of specialists (agricultural engineers, food technologist, rural development experts and economists) in Ethiopia, Mali, Nigeria and Uganda to promote the use of appropriate technologies to reduce losses, improve quality and food safety, and enhance food security and income of smallholder farmers in SAA focus countries, and in Africa in general.

Shashi Sharma is Professor and Chair in Biosecurity and Food Security, and Centre Director of Australia-China Centre for Abiotic and Biotic Stress Management in Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry at Murdoch University in Western Australia. Until his appointment at Murdoch University, Professor Sharma was Director of Plant Biosecurity at the Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia from where he is on secondment. He has had a long career in food and agriculture spanning over 35 years and it includes working in several countries in different spheres of agriculture -- on-farm, post-harvest, trade, quarantine and biosecurity policy and planning, regulation, legislation and science. He studied for his MSc and PhD degrees at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) New Delhi and later returned to IARI as Professor and Head of the Division of Nematology. He worked well over a decade as a Scientist at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), spent his sabbatical at the Delta Centre of the University of Missouri, USA and International Fellowship at the Rothamsted International, UK. He is recipient of several awards in recognition of his contributions to agriculture including Excellence in Science Award of the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research. Professor Sharma is a strong advocate of biosecurity as an integral component of global food security strategy and has been internationally speaking on biosecurity and food security issues for a number of years.

Dr. Mannava Sivakumar was the former Director, Climate Prediction and Adaptation Branch (CLPA) in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Weather and Climate Extremes Journal published by Elsevier and a senior Consultant with World Bank and WMO. He obtained his M.Sc (Agronomy) from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India, in 1972; and Ph.D in Agricultural Climatology from the Iowa State University (USA) in 1977. From 1977 to 1996, Dr Sivakumar worked at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in India (1977-83) and in West Africa (1984-96) occupying the positions successively of Agroclimatologist, Principal Agroclimatologist, Team Leader, Resource Management Programme and Director, Soils and Agroclimatology Division. In July 1996, Dr Sivakumar joined the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and served as the Chief of the Agricultural Meteorology Division until 2008 when he was appointed as the Director of the Climate Prediction and Adaptation Branch (CLPA). Dr Sivakumar has over 300 publications to his credit, including 53 books and 85 articles in various international journals. Dr. Sivakumar received the "Young Scientist Award' and the Science Academy Medal from the Indian National Science Academy of India in 1983. He is a Fellow of seven international scientific societies including the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of India, the Indian Meteorological Society, the National Environmental Science Academy, the American Society of Agronomy, the Royal Academy of Overseas Sciences of Belgium, the Academy of Georgofili of Italy and Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Biodiversity Science. Dr Sivakumar received the 2007 International Service in Agronomy Award from the American Society of Agronomy, the Award of Excellence for exceptional and outstanding contributions in the field of Science from the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) in 2009 and the Bharat Jyoti Award from the India International Friendship Society in 2012.

He focused on modeling small farms’ optimal productivity under stressed environmental conditions, resource utilization and effective institutional services provision. His research interest focuses on optimal resource utilization for sustainable livelihood, food security and food systems as well as rural poverty analysis. He has authored and co-authored manuscripts and proposal with others. He has read papers on food issues at several local and international conferences. Dr Hosu is the Lead Researcher and Consultant, Sunclare Consults Limited, a-one- stop research outfit for solutions to agriculture and agribusinesses issues based in Nigeria. He is currently a Research Fellow at Walter Sisulu University, Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

Prof. Tahlim Sudaryanto, Ph.D is Senior Agricultural Economist at the Indonesian Center for Agriculture Socio Economic and Policy Studies (ICASEPS), Ministry of Agriculture, the Republic of Indonesia. He has recently completed his term as Assistant Minister for International Cooperation in the Ministry of Agriculture. Prior to his current position, he has held the following positions in the Ministry: Director, Indonesian Center for Agriculture Socio Economic and Policy Studies; Director, Bureau of Planning and Finance; Executive Secretary, Directorate General of Food Crop Production and; Executive Secretary, Agency for Agricultural Research and Development. During his career, he has also served as lecturer, advisory committee on thesis and dissertation research in both undergraduate and graduate program of several universities. As official of the Ministry of Agriculture, he has participated as delegation on WTO negotiation, various committees and council meetings at the OECD, G20, FAO, UN-ESCAP, APEC, ASEAN forums, and other bilateral meetings. Professor Munashe Shoko is the Former Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at Great Zimbabwe University and is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty. He obtained his Ph.D. (Agronomy) at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He started his university teaching career in the Faculty of Agriculture, Africa University Zimbabwe in 2003 and left for Great Zimbabwe University as Founding Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in 2011. Professor Shoko has more than 52 publications. Prof Shoko is an external examiner for 4 local and 3 external universities. He is a reviewer of 8 Scientific Journals. Prof Shoko sits on three Boards for private organisations in Zimbabwe.

Fanuel Kapute is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fisheries Science at Mzuzu University, Malawi where he is also the Head of Department. He is a reviewer to several international journals and has several publications in peer reviewed journals including a Handbook published by VDM Verlag, in Germany (ISBN 978-3-639-33844-7) which is used in the teaching of Fish Processing and Quality Management at undergraduate level. Devi Prasad Juvvadi is Director (Agriculture Management) at Centre for Good Governance (CGG), Hyderabad, India. Earlier he was Team Leader and M&E specialist to A.P. Community Based Tank Management project in minor irrigation of Andhra Pradesh funded by World Bank. He worked as Lead Consultant. SPIU (Agriculture) with CGG and involved in change and delivery projects, capacity building and change management programmes to various government departments under Delivery of Improved Services in Administration (DISA), a DFID supported programme. He served as Member, Board of Management, A.P. Horticultural University. In the decades of eighties, Mr. Prasad worked as Asst. Professor (Soil Science) with American University of Beirut and adjunct to teaching and research programmes in Saudi Arabia for about 10 years. He was Consultant to many agriculture projects in several countries in the Middle East and Europe. Dr. Griffiths G. Atungulu is an Assistant Professor of Grain Process Engineering in the Food Science Department at the University Of Arkansas Division Of Agriculture. Griffiths’ education has been in agricultural engineering with research specialization in grains process engineering. He holds Bachelors of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Iwate University, Japan. Following his graduation, he worked as a research engineer at Kyushu University in Japan on a Japanese Society of Promotion of Sciences fellowship. Steve Worth is Associate Professor: Extension and Rural Resource Management and Academic Leader: Teaching and Learning in the School of Agriculture, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. He is also the Director of the African Centre for Food Security at UKZN. Whether in the classroom, the field or the boardroom, Steve brings two things to the table: engaging creativity; and nearly 40 years' experience as a practitioner, trainer, facilitator and academic in Africa. For 13 years he worked in rural development amongst the Batswana in the rural areas of the now North West province of South Africa. There he was engaged in agricultural economics, agricultural extension, community development and rural enterprise development. For over 15 years he has consulted with international agencies including the FAO of the United Nations and the Spirit of Africa Institute, and with South African agencies including the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Institute of Natural Resources, the Farmer Support Group, the University of Mpumalanga, the South African Bahá’í Office of Social and Economic Development, and National and Provincial Departments of Agriculture and Land Affairs on various aspects of human capacity development, policy development, wealth creation, rural development, agricultural extension, agricultural education and rural enterprise development. This work has taken him to Botswana, DR Congo, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, Namibia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe as well as all over South Africa. Since 2001, he has been serving fulltime as an academic involved in teaching, research and community in agricultural extension and resource management, curriculum development, community development, rural wealth creation and sustainable livelihoods. Using an experiential learning framework for his lectures and workshops, Steven, will tell his ‘students’ two things up front: He does not believe in solving problems; and he will not take responsibility for your learning. The result: Classes that are hugely popular and highly transformative. More recently he has been involved in governance of teaching and learning and in developing programmes in Food Security. Over the years Steven has developed and presented numerous training programmes for agricultural, rural and community development and personal transformation. He is an internationally recognized expert in phage technology who was instrumental in securing the first ever FDA-approval for phage based food safety product in the World. In 1990, Soraya L Valles graduated in Biological Science from the University of Valencia and completed her PhD in 1996under the supervision of Consuelo Guerri at Research Institution (Instituto de Investigaciones Citologicas). In 1997 she joined Eva Qwanstrom’s group at the Hallamshire Hospital (University of Sheffiel) in Sheffield, UK and spent three years involved in the identification of an adhesion-regulated subunit of the interleukin-1 (IL-1) receptor complex. She was working in immunology, cytokines, inflammation processes and matrix regulation of IL-1 responses. In 2000 she joined University of Valencia as a lecturer. She was also involved in the mechanisms of oxidative stress in the generation of Alzheimer’s disease with Jose Viña’s group.
